FIREMEN’S HOME WELCOMES NEW DIRECTOR OF NURSING

(Hudson, NY) – The Firemen’s Home, serving volunteer firefighters from communities throughout New York State, is pleased to announce the appointment of their new Director of Nursing, Ruth M. Shear.  Ms. Shear comes to the facility with 25 years of experience in long term care.

Originally from Allegany County, Ms. Shear is a graduate of St. James Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Hornell and has recently worked in the Gettysburg Lutheran Nursing and Rehab Center in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.  Over her long career, she has worked for facilities in Schenectady, Hornell, Geneseo, East Aurora and Belmont, New York, and has been called on to consult with facilities as far away as Florida and Ohio.

James W. Wright, President of the Board of Trustees of the Firemen’s Home, states, “We are extremely pleased to have Ruth Shear on board as our Director of Nursing.  She is a consummate professional with outstanding experience in nursing care and a focus on providing compassionate care to each member of the Home.”

Ms. Shear adds, “I always wanted a career in nursing, and I am thrilled to be working at the Firemen’s Home.  I am so impressed with the facility and the commitment of the Administration and Board of Trustees.”  Ms. Shear’s desire to be a nurse in a nursing home started early in life.  Her father was the Commissioner of Social Services in Allegany County and she lived next door to the Allegany County Home, where her mother served as Matron.  From age 6-19, she spent much of her time in the home, helping and visiting with the patients.

The Firemen's Home is the only nursing home in New York State devoted to caring for volunteer firefighters. For more information, please send us an email from the "Contact Us" page on this website or call us at (800) 479-7695.
